Tolerance

Our school is made up of people from a wide range of backgrounds. We promote understanding and appreciation of different faiths, races and cultures both within school and the wider world. We celebrate cultures through an Culture Day.  During this day the children dress in their own traditional clothes, take part in a variety of activities such as Steel Pans and the parents bring in a wide range of delicious home cooked food for the children to try and enjoy.

Tolerance of different faiths, races and beliefs is promoted through the curriculum in RE and PSHEC. KS2 visit our local church at Christmas for our annual Nativity and Carol Concert.

We actively promote courtesy and good manners to all. Our school rules are Stay Safe, Be Kind and Be Ready. 

We actively monitor, using CPOMS,  and tackle all forms of bullying, racism and harassment. This includes cyberbullying and prejudice-based bullying of appearance, SEN, race, religion, belief and disability. We take part in anti-bullying week annually and NSPCC 'speak out' assemblies. We carry out pupil voice surveys twice a year. 

Individual Liberty

We know our rights and exercise them in school and beyond. As long as we do not break the rules - Stay safe, Be Kind, Be Ready - we can express our own views. We are responsible for our own actions and challenge prejudice. Together we are a community who care, respect and understand each other. We accept the beliefs and faiths of others. We provide a safe and supportive environment in which we encourage all to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedom whilst respecting that everyone else also has the same rights. Pupils are encouraged to make good choices within safe boundaries. They are given the opportunity to resolve conflicts effectively and are supported by staff when needed.

We learn about pioneers throughout history who have exercised their rights and personal freedom by celebrating Black History Month, International Women's Day and by learning about the pioneers our classes are named after.

Democracy

All children are encouraged to have their say, express their views and contribute to the running of the school on matters which directly involve children.

We have

These children work with the staff to raise standards and ensure that every voice is heard in our school. See Pupil Leadership

Respect

We believe that respect for others is a vital component of moral development, encouraging open discussions in all areas but especially in lessons which promote citizenship, such as PSHEC. Year 6 Head Pupils host the Trust Remembrance Day service each year at our on site war memorial.

We actively support all to develop their own reasoned views about moral and ethical issues, through weekly themes assemblies.

We encourage pupils to understand the rights and responsibilities as citizens within our school and in the wider community. We raise money each year for a charity, voted for by the children.  

Rule of Law

We have high expectations about pupil conduct and this is reflected in our behaviour policy. See Policies 

Through our school assemblies, class discussions and PSHEC lessons children are taught about British Values and the school rules.

We respect the school rules and laws in society. Year 6 take part in the Young Citizenship workshops in the summer term. They also have the opportunity to complete Bikeablity training.

Through a focus each half term, the whole school is taught about a different safety focus. e.g.

1. Rules for railway safety,
2. Rules for electrical safety
3. Road safety awareness week.

We help each other to do the right thing. We are honest, truthful and loyal.
